Here at Smudge Wellness, we have a lot of love to give and today we wanna give some love to Underbelly Yoga. For those unfamiliar, The Underbelly is a “virtual yoga studio inviting you to look within.” Jessamyn Stanley is your instructor on the go for wherever and whenever you are ready to practice. During this pandemic, many of us returned to our home practices. While I love the challenge of a studio practice, stretching it out at home by myself (or in hotel rooms while traveling for work) was how I got started with my yoga practice so it’s nice to go return to something familiar and comfortable.
I completed my first class on the Fire Track called “Build some good heat” and they meant that! I definitely felt the fire growing inside during my flow and I really enjoyed that it was both a challenging but approachable flow. One of the many reasons that the Underbelly aligns with Smudge Wellness is because they are a community for everyone who is overlooked and underserved in the Wellness Community. As a Black queer woman, I really appreciate any space that allows people to show up fully and completely as they are, especially after the world has worn them down. A few years ago, I was at an event that Jessamyn was getting an award at and she graciously accepted the world while basically telling people it was time to get over the fact that she’s a fat Black woman teaching yoga and I get where she is coming from. She is an awesome teacher, periodt and I will happily sign on with her to make me sweat anyday.
So if you are looking for an online studio to join, check out the Underbelly and Watch anywhere, anytime with your iPhone, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, or Roku.
